GRAND RAPIDS, MI. - Chris Brown, 37, received an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, on October 26, 2026, for an affray incident at a London nightclub in February 2023. Judge Tony Baumgartner delivered the sentence at London's Southwark Crown Court. Brown will avoid immediate jail time unless he violates court conditions during the suspension period. He pleaded guilty in July to affray, a charge involving the threat or use of unlawful violence.

The incident occurred at Tape, a Mayfair club, where Brown attacked music producer Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle. Prosecutors characterized Brown's actions as a "vicious and unprovoked attack" and "plainly dangerous," highlighting the severe injury risk from repeated blows with a glass bottle. Video evidence showed Brown striking Diaw twice in the head and throwing punches. Diaw required hospital treatment for head and knee injuries.

Brown's co-defendant, vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, 40, also pleaded guilty to affray and received a four-month suspended sentence. Brown must pay £1,500 towards prosecution costs within one month. Judge Baumgartner acknowledged Brown's guilty plea, stable employment, and charitable work as mitigating factors, while stating his fame did not grant him special treatment. Authorities arrested Brown in Manchester in May 2025 upon his return to the UK for a concert, following a warrant issued after he left the country in 2023.
